March 25, 1915 - October 20, 2010Dorothie E. Farrell, age 95, of Forest City, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.
Dorothie Elizabeth (Lackore) Haan Andreason Farrell was born in Forest City, Iowa, on March 25, 1915, the daughter of Ernest M. and Lydia (Jaster) Lackore. She received her education in Forest City Schools.
She was united in marriage to Frank Haan in 1931. The couple made their home in Crystal Lake where they owned and operated Crystal Lake Produce. In 1952, they began farming first south of Crystal Lake and then in 1955, south of Miller. The couple moved to Forest City in 1957. Dorothie worked at the Riverside Café, the Bowling Pin Factory and at Stitchcraft. She also worked at the Lamp Shade Factory and Winnebago Industries, retiring in 1976.
After Frank’s death, she married Marvin Andreason in 1982. He passed away in 1988. She married Loren Farrell in 1989, and the couple enjoyed twenty years of married life before Loren’s death in 2010.
Dorothie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing and bowling. She liked to travel and went camping with her family many times. She was an avid reader, liked working on puzzle books and enjoyed playing cards with friends.
She is survived by her children: Helen (Vernolle) Hill of Bottinueau, North Dakota; Joe (Mary) Haan of Abilene, Texas, and Mary (Lloyd) Anderson of Forest City. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: Frank Haan, Marvin Andreason and Loren Farrell; two daughters, Darlene Haan and Joan Albertson; two sons, Peter and Charles Haan; a great-grandson, Andrew (AJ) Preston and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, with Father Dennis Miller of St. James Catholic Church officiating.
Burial will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be an hour prior to service at the funeral home.
