Steven W. Mattison, age 58, of Thompson, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Steven Wayne Mattison was born on May 26, 1952, to Harry and Marlys (Wessels) Mattison. He graduated from Thompson Community School in 1970.

He, then, moved to Galveston, Texas, where he worked first on a shrimp boat and later on road construction from Texas to Iowa. Next, he owned his own company, Island Painting, opereating throughout Houston and Dallas. Afterwards, he worked for the Seafares International Union along the Eastern coast in Texas. He, next, worked for Moran Towing out of Baltimore, Maryland. In 1986, he started working for G&H Towing in Galveston, Texas, as a Chief Boating Engineer. He worked there right up to his retirement in 2005.

On September 5th, 1978, he was united in marriage to Sharon Kriger in Franklin, Louisiana. They were blessed with two children: Doria on May 8, 1982, and Matthew on July 20, 1986.

Steve was an avid fisherman. He, also, enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and writing his own music. In 1994, he released his own CD.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his son, Matthew (Jessica); and granddaughter, Chloe, of Alvin, Texas; two brothers, Dennis of Thompson, Iowa, and Mark of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Karen Carpenter of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jodi Volsen of Leland, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Mike Anderson of Galveston, Texas; two nieces, Courtney (Luke) Payton of Des Moines, and Haley Volsen of Leland, Iowa; two great nephews, Blayze and Jaxon Payton.

He was preceded in death by his beloved loving daughter, Doria (2006), his mother (2009), his father (1996), and two brothers, Robert (2002) and Donald in infancy.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N Clark St., Forest City, Iowa.

Inurnment will be at the Linden Lutheran Cemetery in rural Thompson.

There will be no visitation.
