Beverly Jean Brekken
(April 11, 1934 - June 29, 2010)

Beverly Jean Brekken, 76, of 501 S. Harrison, Lake Mills, IA, died on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.

Beverly Jean Lockwood was born on April 11, 1934, in Mason City to Willard and Ruth (Hanson) Lockwood. She attended and graduated from Mason City High School where she played basketball. Following graduation she worked in the insurance industry in Mason City for several years. On November 27, 1965, Bev married Irving Brekken. Bev and Irv settled on a family farm near Scarville, Iowa, and were blessed with three daughters. Following Irv’s death in 1980, Bev and daughters moved to Lake Mills where Beverly worked for the Winnebago Mutual Insurance Association for over 15 years.

Beverly enjoyed numerous pastimes including visiting with family, eating out with friends, cheering on her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Twins, and watching a good crime thriller on TV.

Bev will be greatly missed by numerous friends and family including her daughters and their families: Laura and Monte Gulick and their children Emily and Anna (Yankton, SD), Tony and Danielle Gulick and son Dylan (Mason City, IA), and Miranda Gulick and daughter Sophia (Sioux Falls, SD); Alison and Peter Bezanson and their children Noah and Zoë of Phoenix, AZ; and Angela and Sean McHugh of Phoenix, AZ; and her brother Ralph Lockwood of Mason City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irving, and brothers Willard Lockwood, Jr., of Waukee, IA, and Ronald Lockwood of Rock Island, IL.

A visitation will be held 3:00 – 6:00 pm Friday, July 2, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, IA. Private family inurnment will take place at North Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
