(December 7, 1921 - February 4, 2008)FOREST CITY - Agnes B. Otis, age 86 of Forest City, died Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.
Agnes B. Otis was born on her parent's farm near Buffalo Center, Iowa on December 7, 1921, the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Meiman) Helin. She attended rural school near her home and graduated from Buffalo Center High School.
On June 27, 1944, she was united in marriage to James J. Otis. The couple made their home on the farm west of Forest City their entire married lives. Agnes was a member of St. James Catholic Church and active in the Guild.
Agnes was a true "farmer's wife" - active in all aspects of the farming operation. She loved being outdoors, working alongside her family. She liked to garden and did a lot of canning. She liked to read and play family games and especially enjoyed get-togethers with her extended family.
Agnes is survived by her five children: Larry Otis of Forest City; Jeff Otis of Forest City; Karen Nelson (Daryl) of Algona, Iowa; Jane Harswick (Marty) of Urbandale, Iowa and Steve Otis of Midvale, Utah; seven grandchidlren: Heather Harswick, Chad Harswick, Tamara Harswick, Jason Otis, Larissa Otis, Lisa Nelson and Anthony Otis and one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Harswick.
Also surviving are two sisters, Leona Rafferty and Pat Sheehy, both of Mason City, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, who died on November 13, 2007 and eight siblings: Margaret, Marcella, Catherine, Mary, Eunice, Rita, Marion and John.
She will be greatly missed by her family.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Satuday, February 9, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City with Father Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City.
Visitation will be held at Petersen Lund Funeral Home from 5 to 7:30 PM on Friday, February 8th, with a Scripture Service beginning at 7 PM. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to service.
