Rose J. Hinderaker

December 16, 1927 - January 21, 2007

Rose Jeanne Hinderaker, 79, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 21, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Rose Hinderaker, the first-born child of Aage and Anna (Peterson) Hansen, was born on December 16, 1927, at Waupaca, Wisconsin. When she was a young child, her family moved to Iowa and lived in Algona, Scarville, and Lake Mills. In turn, she attended school in Kiester, Scarville, Livermore, and Lake Mills.

On November 9, 1946, Rose married Russell Sundsvold. To this loving union, six children were born. While raising her young children, she worked for various companies in the area. After a twenty-four-year marriage, Russ passed away at age 46 on May 18, 1971.

On December 31, 1971, Rose married Arnie Braadland. They made their home in the Thompson area. During that time, Rose served on the Thompson City Council, and she, also, had a restaurant in Crystal Lake for some time. She helped part-time at the Winter Funeral Home in Thompson, and she worked at the Branding Iron in Thompson for many years. After a fifteen-year marriage, Arnie died May 30, 1986.

On November 7, 1987, Rose married Reuben Hinderaker. They lived in Thompson, Lake Mills, and Phoenix, Arizona. During her nineteen-year marriage to Reuben, she was a homemaker. They, currently, lived at the Parkside Apartment in Lake Mills where they enjoyed visiting with their neighbors and sitting outside on nice summer days.

Rose had many interests. She enjoyed cooking and baking, always making enough to feed an army. Her guests, especially, looked forward to her potato salad and caramel rolls. She loved to read all sorts of books, magazines, and catalogs. Moreover, she enjoyed music, especially when it involved her family. She had learned to play guitar as a child and still remembered some chords many years later when she picked up her grandson’s guitar. She wrote many letters to friends and family. In addition, she made a priority of traveling to visit her family. She, especially, looked forward to her trips to Wisconsin to attend the Hansen Family Reunions. Throughout the years, she helped many people by assisting whenever she could, driving them to doctor appointments, helping them move, taking them grocery shopping, etc. Rose, also, had a large collection of family photos on display for anyone who visited and would proudly show off her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness and generosity. Her faith saw her through both the tragedies that she endured and the good times that gave her life meaning.

Rose passed away at the Muse Norris Hospice of North Iowa on Sunday, January 21, 2007, with her loving husband at her side. She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Marvin; her parents, Aage and Anna; her first two husbands, Russell and Arnie; six brothers-in-law, Palmer and Kenneth Johnson, Burt Kobbervig, Harvey Hanson, Harvey Olson, and Carl Kloster; and four sisters-in-law, Pearl Thorland, Marge and Judy Braadland, Phyllis Hinderaker.
