Benjamin Seymour VanderSchaaf, a son of Floris and Marie (Fynaardt) VanderSchaaf, was born on April 21, 1941, in Mahaska County at his parents’ home on the family farm southeast of Oskaloosa.

Baptized in Oskaloosa Christian Reformed Church, Seymour attended Red Country School and the Oskaloosa Christian School. During his lifetime, he farmed the family farm, transported and delivered Winnebago motor homes and motor coach buses, worked for Stine Seed, and enjoyed trading corn for the Chicago Board of Trade. From an early age, he loved to fly and enjoyed giving rides to family members. He, also, loved flying with Midwest Aviation in Ottumwa. Some of his hobbies included attending air shows, traveling, and restoring his 1951 Ford 8N Tractor. He was also a World War II enthusiast.

Seymour loved the Lord, his family, the farm, and his music. He had a passion for playing the theater pipe organ at the Pella Opera House. He had a servant’s attitude and enjoyed helping family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marjorie (Mose) Van Mersbergen, Harriet Nunnikhoven, and an infant sister; and a brother, Marvin (Tressa) VanderSchaaf.
