July 4, 1921 - May 19, 2015

Virginia L. Meinecke, 93, of Forest City died on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, surrounded by her loving family at the Mercy Medical Center- North Iowa in Mason City.

Virginia, a daughter of Rudolph and Evelyn (Anderson) Finer, was born on July 4, 1921, and raised in rural Thompson, Iowa. In April of 1942, she married John (Bob) Severson, with whom she raised a family in Leland. As a widow, she found love again and married Alvin Meinecke in October of 1988.

She was involved in her church community and spent much of her time with her ten brothers and sisters, three children, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Her July 4th birthday was cause for celebration each year with memorable parties on her 65th and 90th birthdays. She enjoyed many winters in Texas with family and friends. Even at 93, she still had her driver’s license, YMCA membership, and library card, and continued playing cards weekly with her dear friends.

Virginia is survived by her son, Roger Severson, of Des Moines, Iowa; and her daughters, Karen Hopson, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Susan Totty (Jim), of Harrisonburg, Virginia; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Travis) Swendseid, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Lara (Chris Regan) Severson, of San Diego, California, Jonathan (Dana Schrenk) Ruth, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Amanda (Ryan) Soer, of Charlottesville, Virginia; three great grandchildren; and six siblings; as well as by extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, four siblings, a son-in-law, and a daughter-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 22, 2015, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leland with Pastor Richard Heinlen officiating. Burial will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson. A visitation will be held between 4:00 and 7:00 P.M., Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St., Forest City, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 113 5th Ave. Leland, Iowa 50543.
