Gloria Mae Langfald
(August 30, 1933 - October 20, 2014)

Gloria M. Langfald, age 81, died on Monday, October 20, 2014, at her home in Scarville, Iowa.

Gloria, a daughter of Bennie and Jeanette (Aske) Johnson, was born on August 30, 1933, in the family home in Vinje, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Vinje, she attended Scarville High School. After graduating, she went on to attend Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

Gloria and Cleo Langfald married on March 2, 1952, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Vinje, Iowa. In due course, they raised five sons, four daughters, and many foster children. Gloria and Cleo farmed together for many years before retiring in 1989. They, then, purchased their home in Scarville, and Gloria started working as a home health aide, a career she pursued for several years. She, especially, enjoyed having a house full of company, providing the best treats on the block, and watching kids, cats, and birds playing in the backyard.

Most importantly, a loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, and a die-hard Elvis fan, Gloria had a generous and giving heart. She is survived by eight children: Guy (Mary) Langfald, of Waterville, Minnesota, Doug Langfald, (Cindy Henn) of Forest City, Iowa, Deb (Vince) Rothmeyer, of Denison, Iowa, Mike Hatland, of Fairfield, Iowa, Tammy (Dale) Herfendal, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Tina (Kirk) Stubbs, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Monte Langfald, of Scarville, Iowa, and Molly Gjerstad, of Lake Mills, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Diane Langfald, of Lake Mills, Iowa; twenty-seven grandchildren: Jolene (Jeff) Carter; Derek Gjerstad; Matt (Lacey) and Tim Hatland; Leslie (David) Hecker; Eric and Erin Herfendal; Jennifer and Ryan (Lynne) Keough; Erica Klukow; Alex (Heidi Winter), Andrew, Anthony, Billie, Jack (Mandy), Jeffrey, Kelsey, and Melissa Langfald; Erin Larsen; Lanette (Curt) Maser; Adam, Nick, and Sarah Rothmeyer; Alisha (Steve) Shudy; Nichole Smith; Ashley Stubbs; and Lonna (Dick) Tweeten; and fifty great-grandchildren, more or less! She also leaves behind a beloved sister, Ione Nelson, of Forest City, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Eileen Sunde, of Scarville, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews; and hundreds of foster children, friends, and their families, who loved and will miss her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Langfald; her parents, Jeannette and Bennie Johnson; her son, Mark Langfald; her brothers, Marvin (Sonny) Johnson and Donnie Johnson; and her sister, Darlyne Engebretson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Vinje, Iowa, with Interim Pastor Spering Scott officiating. Burial will take place in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation for Gloria will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
