October 25, 1924 - April 29, 2014Forest City - Albert O. Cordes, 89, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Albert Orville Cordes was born on October 25th, 1924, to John and Hinderika (Janssen) Cordes on a farm north of Titonka. He attended German Township #9 school for eight years and then completed the ninth grade at Titonka High School.
On June 26th, 1946, Al married Mildred E. Heyer at the Presbyterian Church in Woden, Iowa. They moved to Forest City, Iowa, where they worked at Eyman Implement for ten years. On January 2nd, 1957, they purchased the International Harvester Implement business in Corwith, Iowa, which they operated for fourteen and a half years. After selling the implement business they moved to Buffalo Center, Iowa. There, Al started his insurance business, working in that field until he retired. In 1977, he and Mildred moved to Forest City.
Al lost his wonderful wife and business partner, Mildred, on November 6, 2002. In 2004, he married Carol (Buns) Bilyeu. God took this wonderful woman to heaven on December 31, 2009. Al knew the Lord as his personal Savior, loved to study his Bible, and faithfully attended Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City.
Al is survived by his daughter, Carla Baker, of Forest City; his step-daughter, Ginger (Lynn) Dau, of Foxhome, Minnesota; his grandchildren: Heather, Corwin, Rebekah, David, James, Leann, and Carrie; ten great grandchildren; and his sister, Margreta Smidt, of Belmond, Iowa, as well as by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; three brothers, John, Ralph, and Kenneth; one sister, Rose Karels; his sisters-in-law, Gladys, Eunice, and Marie Cordes and Lila Heyer; his brothers-in-law, Esder Smidt, William Karels, and Bernard Heyer; in addition to Carol's four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, May 2, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, 636 N. Best St., Forest City, Iowa, with Pastor Doug Farrell officiating. Visitation will be held between 5:00 and 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St. Interment will take place in Madison Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Calvary Baptist Church in his name.
