FOREST CITY - Emmerett L. Brown, 92, of Forest City, formerly of Coulter, died on Friday, August 7, 2009, at Forest Plaza Assisted Living in Forest City.

Emmerett Leone Brown, a daughter of Embert and Emma (Satre) Madson, was born on April 13, 1917, at Stanhope, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope, she graduated from Stanhope High School. Next, she continued her education at Waldorf College in Forest City and then taught school in Webster City, Cooper, and New Sharon, all in Iowa.

On October 10, 1942, she married Howard Brown in Ontario, California. Howard had been stationed at the Army Air Corps base in Ontario during World War II. After his honorable discharge, they moved to Coulter where they raised their family and owned and operated Brown's Grocery Store. After Howard passed away in 1982, Emmerett continued to live in Coulter until 1992 when she moved to Forest City. In October of 2008, she became a resident of Forest Plaza Assisted Living.

She is survived by her children, Jeannine (Mike) Tweed, of Thompson, Diane Brown, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and David Brown, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; two grandsons, Travis (Heather) Tweed, of West Des Moines, and Daris Tweed, of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Orene Docken, of Decorah; and two sisters-in-law, Maxine Madson, of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, and Phyllis Madson, of Bloomington, Minnesota; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

Emmerett was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Clifton, Ingram, and Norman Madson; her sister, Sigrid Mayer; a niece, Sigrid Mount; and an infant brother.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Barb Spaulding officiating. Her body was donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
