Helga O. Anderson
(June 27, 1919 - February 20, 2014)

Helga Orlette Anderson, 94, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at the Thorne Crest Retirement Center in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Helga Orlette Anderson was born on June 27, 1919, to Thor and Oline (Lein) Rinden on the Rinden family farm, rural Joice, Iowa. Confirmed at the Free Church in Fertile, Iowa, she graduated from Joice High School in 1938.

On December 16, 1945, she married Ingwald Anderson at the Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Joice. Four children were born to this union: Shirley Ann, Marlin, Lois, and Paul.

Helga and Ingwald farmed near Lake Mills until 1960. They, then, purchased a farm near Rake, Iowa, where they resided until 1969 when they built a home in Lake Mills. Helga worked at the Lake Mills Meat Locker and then at the Lake Mills Nursing Home until she retired. In 1999, she moved into Mills Harbour Senior Retirement Apartments and resided there until 2011. Then, for health reasons, she moved into the Thorne Crest Retirement Home in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Family and friends will always cherish their memories of Helga’s cooking and baking. Indeed, she baked and decorated many birthday cakes for family members. Moreover, she had a great sense of humor and a strong Christian faith, often dispensing Hugs and “I love yous.”

Helga is survived by her children, Marlin (Kathy) Anderson, of Kiester, Minnesota, Lois (Larry) Johnson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Paul (Diane) Anderson, of Joice, Iowa; eight grandchildren and their spouses; fifteen great grandchildren; her sister, Viola Ausenhus, of Mason City; her brother, Marvin (Delores) Rinden, of Joice; and her brother-in-law, Andrew (Erica) Anderson, of Colonial Heights, Virginia; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

Helga was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Ann, in 1948; her husband, Ingwald, in 1995; her parents, Thor and Oline Rinden; her brothers, Oscar (Iva), Theodore (Maxine), and Arthur (Lois) Rinden; her sisters, Gudrin (Arthur) Furness and Thelma (Everett) Trustem; her brothers-in-law, Clifford Anderson and Russell (Esther) Anderson; and her sister-in-law, Myrtle (Frances) Porter.

Helga will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her faith in God and love of life were truly a great example to all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, February 24, 2014, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Scott Duffus officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa.
