October 5, 1938 - January 24, 2014

BRITT - Keith D. Thompson, 75, of Britt, formerly of Forest City, died on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

Keith Dorn Thompson, the son of Dorn and Jeanette (Johnson) Thompson, was born on October 5, 1938, at Forest City. He attended Forest City Community Schools and married Susan Cooley of Lake Mills. To this union, two daughters were born, Kathy and Jill. The couple later divorced.

Keith lived and worked in the Forest City area for most of his life. He enjoyed writing songs, caring for animals, spending time at the Branding Iron in Thompson, and especially with his family. He had a giving personality and big heart. Others, often, referred to him as a man who would give the shirt off his back, even if it wasn't his.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kathy (Doug) Block, of South St. Paul, Minnesota, and Jill (Terry) Black, of Mason City; eight grandchildren: Cody, Garrett, and Mackenzie Black; Ali, Chase, Chance, and Cole Gilbertson; and Haley (Billy) Offerman; three great-grandchildren; and six siblings: Violet (Laurence) Loeschen, of Woden, Dennis Thompson, of Thompson, Robert "Dusty" (Cheri) Thompson, of Currie, Minnesota, Doris Hatland, of Lake Mills, Debra Kvammen, of Lake Mills, and DeEtta (Tim) Buns, of Wilmington, North Carolina; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Dorn and Jeanette; two sisters, Betty Thompson and Ruth Gunn; an infant brother, Nels Thompson; a brother-in-law, Jeffrey W. Kvammen; and two nephews, Todd Loeschen and Daniel Hanson.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, February 2, 2014, in the Round Up room at the Branding Iron in Thompson, Iowa. There will be no visitation. The Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the Cataldo Funeral Home, 178 First Ave. S.W., Britt, IA 50423.
