Diane K. Steele, age 59, of Lake Mills, died on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

The daughter of Gorden and Kay (Geddes) Anderson, Diane Kay was born on June 29, 1954, at the hospital in Forest City, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church, she attended Scarville Christian Day School for five years before attending and graduating from Lake Mills High School with the “Class of 1972.”

Diane married Bruce Steele on November 20, 1976, at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church where she, a lifelong member, served as the main church organist for forty-six years. She, also, worked at Deluxe/Fleetguard/Cummins in Lake Mills for thirty-seven years.

She loved listening to and playing music, reading books, raising hosta (She had over 300 different varieties.), quilting, admiring Belgian horses, traveling, attending horse sales, and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. In addition, she loved cats and her favorite dog, “Snickers.”

Diane treasured her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Bruce, of Lake Mills, Iowa; her mother and father, Gorden and Kay Anderson, of Scarville, Iowa; her mother-in-law, Carmen Steele, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her brothers and sisters, Julie (Kent) Swenson, of Scarville, Iowa, Gorden (Denise) Anderson, Jr., and Geoffrey (Jodie) Anderson, all of Leland, Iowa, and Annette (Brian) Larson, of Janesville, Minnesota; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ronnie (Mary) Steele, of Ellendale, Minnesota, and David and Jim (Mary Kaye) Steele, all of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and a special cousin, Mark (Sandy) Haugen, of Forest City, Iowa; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her father-in-law, Raymond Steele, in 2007; and her aunts, Gloria Haugen and Jane Geddes.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with Rev. Thomas Rank officiating. Burial will be in Center Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. The family suggest memorials be directed to Center Evangelical Lutheran Church.
