December 1, 1930 - November 30, 2013FOREST CITY - Betty Hutson Johnson, 82, of Forest City, died on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Betty Hutson Johnson, the daughter of Harry and Myrtle (Lackore) Baker, was born on December 1, 1930, in Forest City. Baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Forest City, she attended and graduated from Forest City High School. In September of 1950, she married Richard "Dick" Hutson. They lived on a farm south of Forest City for a few years before moving into town. Betty enjoyed her work with her co-workers at Waldorf College and the Snyder Drug Store. In July of 1990, Dick passed away. A chance meeting rekindled a friendship, and she married Eugene "Gene" Johnson in December of 1995. Betty looked forward to visits with her family and attending her grandkids' sporting events. She and Gene enjoyed traveling to Rockport, Texas, for the winter months and to Washington in the summer to see Gene's family.
Betty is survived by her husband, Gene, of Forest City; two daughters, Sandra Hugelen, of Forest City, and Lois Hutson, of Clear Lake; three grandchildren, John (Ali) Riherd, and their three children, Kobe, Kale, and Kendall, of Parkersburg, Jodi (Travis) Washek, and their two children, Tyler and Melanie, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Alyssa (Jaona) Rakoto, and their two children, Joshua and Bella, of Forest City; her step-sons, Doug (Cindy) Johnson, of Tacoma, Washington, and Mike (Helen) Johnson, of Lakewood, Washington; her step-grandchildren, Tara (Jim) Strand, and their daughter, Alyssa, and Jason (Holly) Johnson, and their three children, Chandler, Noah, and Meagan, all of Puyallup, Washington; two sisters, Melba (Sverre) Osnes, of Patterson, California, and Vivian (Sidney) Kvale, of Lake Mills; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Baker, of Nora Springs, and Evelyn Baker, of Emmetsburg; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Dick; three brothers, Harold (Geraldine), Ross, and Harvey Baker; an infant sister, Bernice Emma Baker; a nephew, Phillip Baker; and a niece, Marilyn Christiansen.
The family would like to thank and remember Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City. Inurnment will be held in the spring at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.
