David Leroy Gambell
April 13, 1957 - July 15, 2013

FOREST CITY - David L. Gambell, age 56, of Forest City, died Monday, July 15, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Mason City, Iowa.

David was born on April 13, 1957, in Forest City, Iowa, to Dean and Arlene Gambell. He grew up on the family farm just south of town. On October 24, 2009, he married Cindy (Cosgriff) Norman in Vero Beach, Florida.

David had a passion for music. An avid guitar player since his teenage years, he kept on practicing in order to perfect his skill. He enjoyed the old time music he learned from his dad. Indeed, he experienced many good times playing the guitar with his "pa" on the fiddle while his "ma" kept time with the beat. Later in life, David enjoyed playing blue-grass and gospel guitars with his wife, Cindy. To add to the "sound" of the music, David was also becoming an enthusiastic harmonica player. He loved learning to achieve that "bluesy" sound. His talent with his music seemed endless as he effortlessly played the guitar and harmonica together at the same time.

David also pursued photography, another of his interests, with vivacity. He not only loved capturing of the moment of the photo, but also what he could do with the photograph afterwards to make it better, make it fun, or just make someone laugh. David's creativity with photography never stopped, and he left behind many pictures his family will treasure over the years.

David is survived by his wife, Cindy, Forest City; his son, Ryan (Randi) Gambell (sons Masen and Ian) also of Forest City; his step-daughter, Rebecca (Andy) Heyer (twin daughters, Madisyn and Teaghann) of Britt; his parents, Dean and Arlene Gambell, of Forest City; a niece, Jessica (Jon) Cahoon (daughter Jayden); and his nephews, Michael (April) Gambell (daughter Faith) and Nathan (Cassy) Gambell (sons Nicholas, Chase, Jacob, and Matthew).

David is preceded in death by his brother, Art Gambell.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 19, 2013, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City with Pastor Scot McCluskey of Galilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake officiating. Burial will be at the Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and will continue an hour prior to the service.
