Norman B. Braadland
(August 4, 1933 - May 20, 2013)

Norman B. Braadland, age 79, of Scarville, Iowa, died on Monday, May 20, 2013, at his home in rural Scarville.

The youngest for four children, Norman B. Braadland was born in Eden Township, Winnebago County, Iowa, on August 4, 1933, to Julia (Knutson) and Thore Braadland. He grew up in the Thompson area.

As the youngest, Norman spent a lot of time with his mother, Julia. From her, he acquired his love of cooking. Whether baking a cake or creating a main dish, he loved to cook. He was always looking for and trying out new recipes. From his father, he learned about farming, his life-long occupation. When he officially retired, he took up a new hobby, working on classic tractors. He started with a Farmall B, his pride and joy, before acquiring several others.

Affectionately known as “Tubby” by his friends, Norman always looked on the bright side. He would never pass up a chance for a good laugh, whether teasing his daughters and giving them a rough time or catching up with friends at the local parade. He enjoyed life and made the most of it.

Norman is survived in death by his two daughters: Joy Salazar, and her husband, Jose Luis, and her three children; and Sarah Drugg, and her husband, Jason, and her two daughters; and his brother-in-law, David Sorensen, of Bemidji, Minnesota; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Norman is preceded in death by his wife, Judith (Sorensen); his mother, Julia; his father, Thore; two brothers, Arnie and Merel; and one sister, Pearl Thorland.

Norman’s family would like to extend a huge Thank You to the Anderson Family for all of their help, Thank You Andersons!

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Vinje, Iowa, with Pastor Norman Bauer officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Norman's family will greet friends on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, Iowa, and again one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
