(August 14, 1914 - May 12, 2013)Glen A. Fure, age 98, of Kiester, Minnesota, died at his home on Sunday, May 12, 2013.
Glen Anville Fure was born to Clemet and Anna (Flo) Fure on August 14, 1914, in Eden Township, Winnebago County, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, he remained a member there his entire life. He attended country school at Eden Township #1.
Glen married Gladys Smith on September 26, 1934. Four boys, Duane, Audene, Keith, and Kirk, and a daughter, Tamara, were born to this union.
The couple farmed in the Kiester area before moving into town in 1970. At this time, Glen began to work for Deluxe Products in Lake Mills, now known as Cummins Filtration. He retired in 1980. Gladys passed away on March 7, 1983, after almost forty-nine years of marriage.
On August 26, 1984, Glen married Marjorie Scherb. Snow birds, they migrated to Mission, Texas, every winter for twenty years. Marjorie passed away on July 11, 2005. Glen loved to read, dance, bowl, and watch the Twins and the Vikings. He also liked to work jigsaw puzzles, play cards, and garden.
Glen is survived by his son, Kirk (Lesia) Fure, and his daughter, Tamara (John) Henthorne, all of Kiester, Minnesota; two foster daughters, Bonnie Meyer, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Kathy (Dale) Roberts, of Rockwell, Iowa; a very special friend, Pat Olson, of Thompson, Iowa; a step-daughter, Nancy Hassebroek, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; a step-son, Raymond (Marilyn) Anderson, of Newton, Iowa; and two daughters-in-law, Lynda Fure (Duane’s wife), of Carpentersville, Illinois, and Mary Fure (Audene’s wife), of Cortland, Illinois; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren (#33 is due to join the family any day); ten great-great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Percing (Jackie) Fure, of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and Wilmer (Margaret) Fure, of Faribault, Minnesota; two sisters, Berdell Trytten, of Kiester, Minnesota, and Wilma Thompson, of Kerrville, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Smith, of Austin, Minnesota; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys, in 1983; his wife Marjorie Scherb, in 2005; three sons, Duane, Audene, and Keith Fure; a granddaughter, Mandy Hauan; a daughter-in-law, Kathy (Braun) Fure; three brothers and their wives, Odwin (Norma) Fure, LuVern (Esther) Fure, and Jenning (Marcie) Fure; three sisters and their husbands, Bernet (Emil) Isaacson, Sarah (David) Elvebak, and Josephine (Joe) Lockrem; a foster son-in-law, Harold Meyer; a step-son-in-law, Willie Hassebroek; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, William (Pearl) Smith, Vernon Smith, Irene (Delbert) Smith Adams, and Dorothy and Cecil Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 10681-500th Street, rural Thompson, Iowa, with Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Burial will take place in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
