FUNERAL POSTPONED DUE TO BAD WEATHER

Paul A. Hylland, 78, of Scarville, Iowa, died Monday, February 26, 2007, at his home in rural Scarville, Iowa.

Paul Andrew Hylland was born at Leland, Iowa, on May 31, 1928, the youngest son of Nels and Grace Schieffelbein Hylland. Baptized and confirmed at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. Justin Petersen, he attended country school Newton #1 through the 8th grade.

Afterwards, Paul took over farming for his parents. He also did a lot of custom work for other farmers and spent time picking and hauling sweet corn for the Lake Mills Canning Factory. In addition, he also worked for the Scarville Elevator where he applied anhydrous, and he worked helping his brother, Raymond.

Paul married Ruth Jacobson of Thompson, Iowa, on November 20, 1948, at the church parsonage in Scarville, Rev. Justin Petersen officiating. The couple lived on Paul’s parents’ farm place until 1955 when they purchased a farm west of Scarville where they had remained ever since.

Paul loved to travel and spent many years in Texas. He recently talked about going again next year.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Ruth, of Scarville, Iowa; his son, Charles Hylland, and his wife, Kathy, of Leland, Iowa; two granddaughters, Amber, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Stacy, of Leland, Iowa; a grandson, Paul, of Leland, Iowa; a sister, Gilma Helgeland, of Bricelyn, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Elna Hylland, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Mavis Klein, of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Edwin Jacobson, and his wife, Joan, of Thompson, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Andrina Oulman and Alma Hylland; and four brothers, Martin, Raymond, Henry, and Laurence Hylland.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with Rev. Thomas Rank officiating. Burial will take place at Center Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, March 2, 2007, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral services for Paul A. Hylland, 78, of Scarville, Iowa, have been changed to 1:30 PM, Sunday, at Center Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills with Rev. Thomas Rank officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, 5:00-7:00 PM, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Center Cemetery in rural Lake Mills.
