Eileen M. Rotta
January 8, 1936 - October 7, 2008

FOREST CITY - Eileen M. Rotta, age 72, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at her home in rural Forest City.

Eileen was born to Alice (Reynders) and George Vander Loop in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, on January 8, 1936, the eleventh of thirteen children. She graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows High School, Ladysmith, in 1954.

Eileen married Frank Rotta in Ladysmith on October 5, 1957. They moved to Milwaukee after Frank completed his military service in 1958. In 1961, they moved to suburban Chicago, Illinois, where she sold Avon and Mary Kay Cosmetics.

In 1973, the family, with seven children, moved to Forest City when Frank began working for Winnebago Industries. Later, Eileen also worked at Winnebago in the Personnel Department in the late 1970s. In 1987, she graduated from Hamilton Business College at age fifty-one as a medical secretary.

Eileen found great joy and satisfaction in raising seven happy and successful children. She volunteered with Forest City's ambulance service and at the Robertelle Center. She loved playing golf, “hand and foot” cards, walking and hiking, lunching with the Red Hat Ladies, and watching her grandkids grow.

After Frank retired from Winnebago in 1990, they traveled with their grandchildren in the summers and spent their winters in the South. They traveled all around the United States and visited Australia, Holland, Poland, Germany, Alaska, and Mexico as well. In 1992, they also established Turkey Roost Antiques to buy and sell antiques and collectibles.

For the last six winters, Eileen and Frank lived in an RV Park in Sun City, Arizona. Eileen enjoyed photography and joined a hiking club and the “Choralaires.” She was especially proud of her “exhilarating” one day, thirteen mile hike into the Grand Canyon at age sixty-nine and her “singing career” as a soprano in South Pacific, Oklahoma, and other productions that the RV Park Choralaires performed. She served as the group’s president until she fell ill this year.

She is survived by Frank, her husband of fifty-one years; her children, Maria (Kent) Koschmeder, of Williamsburg, Iowa, Joe (Dianne) Rotta, of Merrill, Iowa, Tom (Paula) Rotta, of Forest City, Elizabeth (Lee) Mooty, of Jensen Beach, Florida, Teresa (Ken) Skjeie, also of Forest City, and Mike (Trisha) Rotta, of Faribault, Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren: Jessica Koschmeder, and her fiancé, Dan Krogstad, of Goleta, California, Casey Koschmeder, of Iowa City, Andrew Rotta, of Westminster, Colorado, Lynnae Rotta, of Omaha, Nebraska, Melissa Rotta, of Merrill, Iowa, Mathew Mooty, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Michael Mooty, of Melbourne, Florida, Rachel Mooty, of Jensen Beach, Florida, Amanda Skjeie, and friend, Jordan Branstad, and Nicole Skjeie, of Forest City, and Ashley, Logan, and Brandon Rotta, of Faribault, Minnesota; her sisters, Martina Doell, of Hortonville, Wisconsin, Sisters John Vander Loop and Bernice Vander Loop, of Ladysmith, Wisconsin, Dorothy Krajewski, of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Gertrude O'Brien, of Phoenix, Arizona, Audrey (Don) Kvist, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Anne (Jack) Hauber, of Webster, New York; and her brothers, Paul (Milly) Vander Loop, of Bruce, Wisconsin, Tony (Julie) Vander Loop, of Boyanup in Western Australia, and George (Kathy) Vander Loop, of Elk River, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret; her grandson, Cory Moore; her parents, Alice and George Vander Loop; her sisters, Marie Haasl, of Babbitt, Minnesota, and Eunice Rybicki, of Green Bay, Wisconsin; as well as by several nieces; nephews; and her mother-in-law, Catherine Rotta, of Milwaukee.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, October 10, 2008, at 10:30 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Iowa, with Fr. Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at the funeral home with a 6:30 PM Scripture Service. Visitation will continue an hour prior to services at the church.
