Viola Wilhelmina Mary
April 6, 1915 - August 23, 2006Viola Wilhelmina Mary, age 91, of Forest City, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at the Concord Care Center in Garner, Iowa.
Viola was born on April 6, 1915, on the family farm in Liberty Township, near Duncan, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Katherine (Korn) Vondracek. She attended country school at Liberty School #3, helped on the farm, and did domestic work before her marriage.
Viola married Mark Mary, Sr., on January 2, 1934, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Msgr. Kapecky officiating. The couple farmed in the Hayfield area for many years before they retired and moved to Forest City.
Viola loved to babysit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to cook and bake and share with others. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Forest City.
She is survived by three sons and their spouses: Mark and Jeanette Mary, of Joice, Iowa, Ron and Joyce Mary, of Stockton, Missouri, and Robert and Cindy Mary, of Forest City, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mark; five sisters, Rose Simmons, Anna Schleusner, Bertha Morellis, Mary Williams, and Clara O’Rourke, and an infant sister, Agnes; her brother, Frank Vondracek; a half-sister, Ella Pavelka; and a grandson, Mark Mary III, and his wife, Peggy.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Saturday, August 26, 2006, at 10:30 AM at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City with Fr. Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, August 25, 2006, at the funeral home and an hour prior to services at the church.
