November 30, 1914 - June 15, 2007FOREST CITY — Earl W. “Toad” Fox, Jr., 92, of Forest City, died Friday, June 15, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
Earl W. “Toad” Fox, Jr., the son of Clyde and Jennie (Smith) Fox, was born on November 30, 1914, in Ellington Township, Hancock County, on the Abe Fox place. On August 20, 1934, he married Vivian Mae Nelson. Toad and Vivian had eight children, Beverly, Marsha, Ron, Tom, Mary Jane, John, Clifton, and Craig.
Toad worked at various jobs in his ninety-two years, including for Dr. Jerry Jorgensen, the veterinarian, and at the Forest City Sale Barn for fifty years on the ring on sale days. About thirty years ago, he retired from Winnebago Industries. His favorite pastime was coon hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian, of Forest City; his children, Marsha, Ron, Tom, Mary Jane, John, Clifton, and Craig; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill; and three sisters, Margie, Jennie Mae, and Helen Jean.
Toad was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Beverly; a granddaughter, Gail; two sons-in-law, Allan Berg and Rudy Martinson; two brothers, Kay and Creighton “Chic”; two sisters-in-law, Alice and Kathryn Fox; and one brother-in-law, Roger Nelson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City with Rev. Jon Rollefson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
