Einar Oppedal, age 89, of Lake Mills, Iowa, formerly of Kiester, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.

Einar Odean Oppedal was born in Stanhope, Iowa, on August 29, 1919, the son of Isaac and Barbara “Bertha” (Iverson) Oppedal. As a young man, he worked in the construction business with his family. He liked shooting pool, bowling, solving crossword puzzles, paying cribbage, and guessing the answers to the Wheel of Fortune, but he especially enjoyed coaching the Eden Little League team.

He is survived by his wife, Violet Oppedal, of the Lake Mills Care Center, Lake Mills, Iowa; his son, Gary, and his wife, Jodi Oppedal, of Hartland, Minnesota; his daughter, Lynn Michelle, of Mason City, Iowa; three grandchildren: Erik (Sarah) Oppedal, of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Jade Diaz, of Hartland, and Jasmine Diaz, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four great-grandchildren: Hannah, Trevor, and Ethan Oppedal and Jordis Diaz; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Ivan and David; his sister, Margaret Hill; and his brother, Donald Oppedal.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 30, 2009, at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Winnebago County, Iowa. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 29, 2009, from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn and one hour prior to the service at the church.
