August 29, 1939 - December 3, 2009Grinnell, Iowa
The daughter of Tilford and Viola Drussell Christenson, Neoma was born on August 29, 1939, in Thompson, Iowa. She was raised on the family farm near Thompson and graduated from Thompson High School with the class of 1957. Neoma married Pius Joseph Walter on April 3, 1960, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Kiester, Minnesota [rural Thompson, Winnebago County, Iowa]. To this union were born their children, Thomas, Elizabeth, Suzanne, and Cynthia.
Neoma moved with her children to Grinnell in 1972 where she began her career as an operator at the General Telephone Company. A longtime employee, she retired from GTE in 2003 after working there in a variety of capacities.
Neoma was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell and the Grinnell Eagles Club. She liked spending time with her family and friends and traveling with friends to explore unique rural communities. She especially enjoyed spending time at her friend's cabin in Guttenberg, Iowa.
Neoma is survived by her children, Tom (Kelli) Walter, of Grinnell, Beth (Dana) Glasnapp, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sue (Jay) Sowden, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Cindy (Kenny) Juhl, of Irwin, Iowa; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; her brother, Gene (Kay) Christenson, of New Brighton, Minnesota; her niece, Lisa (Dan) Klejeski, of St. Cloud, Minnesota; and her nephew, David Christenson, of Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials: St. John's Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, or to the Grinnell Regional Hospice.
