Janice L. Ramthun, age 54, of Lake Mills, died Monday, October 29, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Janice Lynn (Evjen) Ramthun was born on May 14, 1958, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to John and Joyce (Nelson) Evjen. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Janice attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1976 before going on to attend Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

While employed at 3M in Forest City, she met Tom Ramthun, and the two married on June 29, 1985, in Denton, Texas. The couple, then, moved to California, living in the Palm Springs area for thirteen years. During this time, they were blessed with two children, Matthew and Jennifer.

In 1998, the family moved back to Lake Mills, and Janice began working in the Lake Mills Community School cafeteria. During her time at the school, Janice enjoyed interacting with her co-workers and watching the children all grow up year after year.

Janice was an avid collector of thimbles and Barbies. She liked going to farm auctions and antique shopping, and she enjoyed watching black and white movies, especially musicals. Janice was a loving and hard-working wife, mother, and daughter who will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Ramthun, of Lake Mills; her daughter, Jennifer Ramthun, of Ames, Iowa; her father, John Evjen, of Lake Mills; her brother, Jim (Rose) Evjen, of Portland, Texas; her mother-in-law, Marjorie (Marion) Striegel, of Oskaloosa, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Tim (Nancy) Ramthun, also of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and her sister-in-law, Tanya (Gerald) Anderson, of Clarksville, Tennessee; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Evjen; her son, Matthew Ramthun; and her father-in-law, James Ramthun.

Her family will greet friends at a memorial visitation on Saturday, November 3, 2012, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, Iowa.
There will be a service of remembrance at 6:00 PM on Saturday during the visitation with Kermit Singelstad speaking.
Inurnment will take place at a later date.
