Inez E. Heimdal
November 24, 1921 - September 2, 2012

Inez E. Heimdal, age 90, of Lake Mills, died Sunday, September 2, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Inez was born on November 24, 1921, to Selmer and Grace Johnson in Geneva, Minnesota. She grew up in Forest City, Iowa, and graduated from Forest City High School in 1940. After graduation, she worked in several homes in Winnebago County as a homemaker. During this time, she met Alfred Heimdal.

Inez and Alfred married on August 16, 1941. Farming and raising eight children, they spent most of their married lives in Winnebago County. In 1991, they relocated into Forest City, Iowa, where they spent their last years together before Alfred passed away in 1994. After his death, Inez continued to live in Forest City for the next decade, spending time with family and friends before moving to the Lake Mills Care Center for her remaining five years.

A very talented and independent person, Inez learned to play the violin at a young age, to sew expertly, and to create her own patterns. She also loved to garden and to spend many hours bargain shopping. Most memorably, however, she had the gift of gab.

She spent much of her life working for several employers including Deluxe, County Home, and Fleetguard where she worked for thirty years, retiring at the age of 67. She also served as a 4-H leader in Mt. Valley Township and actively participated in several church groups at the Winnebago Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children: Sonja Petersen, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Dennis and Marilyn Heimdal, of Farmersburg, Iowa, Noel and Pam Heimdal, of Rockwell City, Iowa, Ilene and Bill Zieser, of Leland, Iowa, Arlyn and Linda Heimdal, of Cheney, Washington, and Mylan and Ana Heimdal, of Houston, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Marie Heimdal, of Canton, South Dakota; her sisters: Lana Dewey, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Idelle Peterson, of Boudon, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; as well as many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Heimdal; her daughter, Leanne Grace; her son, Richard Heimdal; her grandson, Troy Warner; her son-in-law, Ralph Petersen; and her brother, Quintin Johnson.

The family encourages memorials be directed to the Winnebago Lutheran Church Landscaping Fund.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 7, 2012, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Burial will be in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and will continue an hour prior to services at the church.
