Robert "Bob" Peterson
(July 9, 1956 - July 22, 2012)Robert “Bob” Peterson, 56, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died at his home Sunday, July 22, 2012.
Robert “Bob” Gene Peterson was born on July 9, 1956, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Roger G. and Frances Andersen Peterson. At the age of seven, Bob’s family moved to Lake Mills, and so began his life-long residency. A member of Salem Lutheran Church where he had been confirmed, he, subsequently, served as the director of the board of education, taught Sunday school, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. On June 30, 1984, Bob married Pam Kuchera. The couple had been married for twenty-eight years.
In 1975, Bob graduated from Lake Mills High School. He, then, attended Hawkeye Technical College for criminal justice. He was employed at the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department and by the Lake Mills Police Department. He, also, worked for Tipton Trucking and McNeilus Trucking as an over the road truck driver. Next, Bob attended Riverland Technical College, graduating on the Dean’s list. He was, then, employed at Federated Insurance in Owatonna, Minnesota, and Fleetguard Industries in Lake Mills until his health failed.
Bob enjoyed taking his son, Nick, to see trains and trucks when he was a small child, and he also took him to the windmill sites to show him how they were put together. Loved by children and adults alike, Bob always knew how to make friends with a stranger. His hobbies included fishing, sight-seeing, and watching movies.
Bob is survived by his wife, Pam Peterson; his son, Nick Peterson; his mother, Frances Peterson; and his grandmother, Lillian Andersen, all of Lake Mills, Iowa. He is also survived by six siblings, Lynn (Judy) Peterson, of Maui, Hawaii, Don (DeAnn) Peterson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Steve (Kathleen) Peterson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Ron (Irma) Peterson, of Indio, California, Deb (Vance) Persing, of Highland, California, and Ken (Theresa) Peterson, of Grants Pass, Oregon; as well as by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Virginia Kuchera, of Glenville, Minnesota; his brother-in-law, Dave (Janelle) Kuchera, of Alexandria, Minnesota; and his sister-in-law, Patty (Everette) Rolfing, of Winona, Minnesota; as well as his special friends, Harris and LeAnn Honsey, and his dog Lassie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger, in 2009; his paternal grandparents, Perdean and Elnora Peterson; and his maternal grandfather, Marion Andersen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 30, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will take place in North Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 29, 2012, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
