Andrew P. Johnson
(November 14, 1921 - August 1, 2012)

Andrew P. Johnson, age 90, of Lake Mills, died Wednesday, August 01, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Andrew Palmer Johnson was born on the family farm in Mount Valley Township in rural Winnebago County near Lake Mills, Iowa, to John A. and Josie Gustafson Johnson. He attended country school and lived his whole life within two miles of the farm he was born on. He farmed in the area all of his life.

On June 27, 1948, he married Ruth Kilen at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Andrew loved his family and was very proud of his Norwegian Heritage. Known for always trusting in God, he never complained. A lifelong member of Winnebago Lutheran Church, he held many different offices over the years. A DeKalb Dealer for ten years, he always had farming in his blood. He enjoyed camping and reading. His family described him as “very intelligent and self-taught”.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Ruth, of Lake Mills, Iowa; five children, Kathy Millett, of Waterloo, Iowa, Jean (Dr. Steven) Burns, of Sac City, Iowa, Mary Kruse, of Mason City, Iowa, Linda (Alan) Wharton, of Latimer, Iowa, and Curtis Johnson ,of Lake Mills, Iowa; his sisters, Anita Grunhuvd, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Shirley (Thomas) Tveit, of Kiester, Minnesota; his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Marilyn Johnson and Joyce Kilen, both of Lake Mills, Iowa, Hilma (Loren) Stover, of Illinois, and Roy (Marion) Bjorkland, of Lake Mills, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Robert Millett, Karri Mintey, Melissa Millett, TSgt. Jason (Chanda) Burns, Matthew (Anna) Burns, Stephanie Kruse, Matthew (Angela) Wharton, and Luke (SheRee) Wharton; and ten great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven; one grandson, Todd Burns; and one great granddaughter, Abbie Wharton; his son-in-law, Ron Millett; and his brother, Walter Johnson; along with several brothers- and sisters-in-law, Kennes and Alice Kingland, Grace Beiser, Gordon Kilen, Doris Bjorkland, and Gilbert Grunhuvd.

Funeral service: 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Peters officiating.
Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday evening, August 3, 2012, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial: at the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lake Mills, Iowa.
