Isaac Monroe Peters
[July 24,]* 1845 - June 6, 1886

Died at Independence, Iowa, on Sunday, June 6th, 1886, Isaac Monroe Peters. The deceased was born in Illinois in 1845, came to Iowa in 1854, enlisted in Co. 'I' 8th Iowa Calvary August 11, 1963, was discharged by reason of expiration of term of sevice August 13, 1865. He was captured and for four months an inmate of Andersonville prison, where he contracted the disease which sent him to a premature grave. Mr. Peters came to this part of Iowa from Fayette County in 1877 or 1878 and continued to make this place his residence until he was sent to the asylum in December last. He was married twice and leaves a widow and several small children to mourn his sad and untimely death.

The remains were brought here by Tuesday train for burial, and the funeral was held from the M. E. Church on Tuesday afternoon, the services being under the direction of Hyden Post No. 151 GAR, of which the deceased was a member. Rev. E. C. Warren also preaching a short funeral discourse. At the conclusion of the services at the church, the remains were interred in Oakwood cemetery.
