October 12, 1873 - November 1963One of Forest City's oldest life-long residents, Mrs. Elfie T. Nelson, died Friday at a Mason City hospital. She fell at her home on Oct. 29 and had been hospitalized since that time.
Mrs. Nelson had just celebrated her 90th birthday on October 12. She was born October 12, 1873, at the farm home of her parents, Jewett and Sarah Taylor, 4 1/2 miles northwest of Forest City. She was married to Nels Nelson October 22, 1899. They were the parents of eight children.
Survivors include four sons: William T., of Sebastian, Florida, John of Lake Mills, Victor A., of Portland Oregon, and Lyman G., of Mason City; three daughters: Amy Nelson, of Forest City, Mrs. Andrew (Harriett) Feany, of Britt, and Mrs. George (Joy) Feany, of Gilmore City; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Sarah; a brother; two sisters; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. C.N. Curtis officiated. Mrs. Veron Nelson was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Ralph Johnson at the organ.
Interment was in Oakland Cemetery with Thomas Berhow, Delbert Faber, Donald Faber, Frank Kasik, Bert Kloster and Forest Olson as casket bearers. The Olson funeral home was in charge.
