Douglas Zobel
October 4, 1956 - May 9, 2012

Douglas Zobel, age 55, Lake Mills, Iowa, died unexpectedly at his home in Lake Mills, Iowa, on Wednesday morning, May 9, 2012.

Douglas Edwin Zobel was born on October 4, 1956, in a car east of Forest City, Iowa, to Bing and Betty (Peterson) Zobel. Confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, Iowa, he graduated in 1975 from Lake Mills Community Schools where he participated in high school wrestling. He married Vickie Thompson on August 4, 1979, at Silver Lake Lutheran Church and worked at Dielectric from 1979 until his death.

Doug loved his wife and three children and any activities that included them. An official member of the "Pout Brothers", he was passionate about baseball, fishing, ice fishing, bonfires, the Green Bay Packers, the Minnesota Twins, and life itself. If an object broke, he could fix it. He made a hobby of inventing stuff. His Christmas lists frequently included WD-40 and Duct Tape. Often, he could be seen on his “hog,” a 1982 Honda Express Moped, tooling around Lake Mills. A gregarious man, Doug would engage anyone who walked passed in a conversation.

Doug will be sadly missed by his wife, Vickie; his children, Brandon and his fiancée, Blair Diers, of Omaha, Nebraska, April Zobel, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Nolan Zobel, soon to be from Lincoln, Nebraska. He is survived by his siblings, Ray and Elaine Zobel, of Custer, South Dakota, Pat and George Schammel, of Redwing, Minnesota, and Paul and Connie Zobel, of State Center, Iowa; his father-in-law, Ernest Thompson, of Emmons, Minnesota; his sisters-in-law, Debra and Bill Georgia, of Lake Mills, and Barbara Thompson, also of Lake Mills; his brother-in-law, Donald Thompson, of Emmons, Minnesota; and his uncle and aunts, Lois and Floyd Zobel, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and and Jeanette Zobel, of Minnesota; as well as nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bing (Leslie) and Betty Zobel; his mother–in-law, Dorothy Thompson; his sister, Luann Money, and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Peters and Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM, Friday, May 11, 2012, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450.
