Mark Lee Bertram
(June 13, 1981 - April 21, 2012)

FOREST CITY - Mark Bertram, age 30, of Forest City, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Mark was born in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, on June 13th, 1981, to Sue (Bertram) Rohlfs and Dennis (Tank) Fenstra. Mark spent his first ten years in Minnesota. In 1985, Jerry Rohlfs took over the duties of Dad. In 1992, Mark and his family migrated to Iowa, settling in rural Forest City. Throughout his high school years, Mark played on the school's football team. After graduating from Forest City High School in 2000, Mark continued to grow in his love of the sport. He even knew all the statistics that anyone would want to know about football, especially about the Kansas City Chiefs, his dream team.

Mark "Big Daddy" was also an avid "gamer." The World of DC will miss a great hero as will the rest of us. Mark's biggest fans were his nephews and nieces. His nephews enjoyed playing sports with their Uncle Mark, and as a a common occurrence, they would often spend weekends playing video games at his house. His nieces loved hanging out with him for his ability to make them jump out of their skin and laugh the whole time. Family was very important to Mark and came before anything else in his life. That love for family didn't end with his parents or siblings: it carried on through his extended family, friends, co-workers, and anyone he came across. Mark's compassion and willingness to help people remain his legacy along with all of us carrying on those traits in his honor as he would have wanted. For the past six years, Mark worked at Stellar Industries as a Crane Assembler. He took pride in his work and made many friends during his time at Stellar. Throughout his working years, he also spent time at Kryslis as an amazing caretaker for individuals with disabilities.

Mark is survived by his grandparents, Delores (Ole) Laakso, of Florida, and MaryAnn Coleman, of Las Vegas; his parents, Sue and Jerry Rohlfs, of Forest City; his brother, Dusty (Jessica) Rohlfs, and his children, Josh, Kevin, Rachel, Michael, Chelsea, and Chance; his sisters, Mistie (Kevin) Johnson, and her sons, Travis and Zachary; Heather (Greg) Volmer, and her sons, Troy and Luke; Robyn (Rich) Onken, and her sons, Jordan and Tanner; Lisa Bertram, (fiancé, Charlie Van Overbeke) and daughter, Genevieve; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by Ruth Bertram, Herb Bertram, Gertie Rohlfs, Hank Fenstra, Dennis "Tank" Fenstra, and Bill Coleman as well as several friends.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to church services at the United Methodist Church.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
