Death of a Pioneer.

Andrew O. Moklestad, a pioneer resident and one of the most widely known prosperous farmers of this vicinity, died at his home west of town last Saturday morning [21 Mar 1896]. Pneumonia was the cause of his death. He was sick about ten days.

Mr. Moklestad was a man about 56 years of age. He was born near Bergen, Norway, in 1840, and came to America in 1864, settling in Columbia county, Wisconsin. In 1873 he removed to this county settling on the farm where he lived up to the time of his death. Mr. Moklestad was married in 1872, leaving him with a family of six children, all of whom are still living. Mr. Moklestad was a well-to-do man, honest and industrious, and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. His death will be sincerely mourned by those with whom he was associated in life.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon [25 Mar 1896] from the Lutheran Synod church of this city, Rev. A. J. Lee conducting the ceremony. His remains were interred in Oakwood cemetery.
