Eunice Vera Haugo
(September 30, 1916 - January 10, 2012)

Eunice Vera Haugo, age 95, of Lake Mills, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Eunice Vera (Brunsvold) Haugo was born on September 30, 1916, in Bristol Township, Worth County, Iowa, the daughter of Jorgen and Bella Brunsvold. After graduating from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1937, she taught in Danville Public School #3, Worth County, Iowa, for five years.

On September 11, 1942, Eunice was united in marriage with Theodore Alvin Haugo in Bristol Township, Worth County, Iowa. The couple was blessed with five children, and she spent the next twenty years as a homemaker. They built a farmstead six and a half miles east of Lake Mills where they farmed until Ted died in 1982. Eunice retired to Lake Mills in 1988.

Eunice was an active member of Sion Lutheran Church. She had a great love of music, sang with the church choir, accompanied various groups, and encouraged all her children musically. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway.

A talented quilter, Eunice made quilts for church missions as well as for family members. She had a great interest in her family’s genealogy and enjoyed family get-togethers. She avidly supported of her children’s individual interests and educational pursuits.

Eunice is survived by her five children, Lynn Haugo, of Erinsville, Ontario, Canada, Madelyn (Phil) Case, of Anacortes, Washington, Carolyn (Roger) Watters, of Lisbon, New York, Dale (Demarest Campbell) Haugo, of San Francisco, California, and Rebecca (Jim Schulthess) Haugo-Schulthess, of Hancock, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Anna Zoe Haugo, Chanon Watters, Chelsea Phan, Clea Haugo, Jesse Gantenbein, Shane Watters, and Sara Coobs; and four great grandchildren, Myles Schulman, John Phan, Annabelle Watters, and Quincy Coobs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Enis and Vernon Brunsvold; and two sisters, Beatrice Sorenson and Ona Anderson.

Eunice will be remembered for kindness, humor, intelligence, and devotion to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Sion Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will take place in Sion Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 13, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Sion Lutheran Church or to Parkinson’s Research.
