FATAL ACCIDENT

W. A. Ames, a Former Forest City Boy, Meets Death by a Fall at Minneapolis

The startling news was received in this city Monday morning that W. A. Ames, formerly of this city, had met with a fatal accident in Minneapolis from the effects of which he died within a few hours.

Mr. Ames was ascending to the second story of a building on East Main Street in the early morning, the stairway running up the outside of the building. He had just reached the top when he stumbled and fell over the low railing to the stone pavement below, striking the back of his head and fracturing his skull. He was removed to the city hospital, where upon examination, his injuries were found to be fatal. He lingered in an unconscious state until about ten o’clock when he died.

William A. Ames was born in the county about thirty-three years ago. He was raised to manhood in Forest City but removed to Minneapolis about 10 years ago and engaged in the lumber business. He was a member of the H. O. Hawkins Lumber Co. and was prominent in the business and social circles of the Flour City.

The remains were brought to this city Tuesday, accompanied by his wife, his sister, Mrs. J. S. Howard and his brother-in-law, W. A. Olson. Funeral services were held at his parents’ residence on Wednesday, Rev. J. D. Mason performing the last sad rites, and the remains laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery.
