Forest City - Amy Brakke, 82, of Forest City, died Monday (Oct. 25, 1999) at the Heritage Care Center in Lake Mills

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills. Burial will be in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.

Visitation was held on Tuesday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City.

Amy Olive Lovick Brakke was born on June 14, 1917, on the rented farm of her parents, Henry and Ida (Hanson) Lovick. She was baptized by the Rev. Gronskov of the Bethel Lutheran Church and was confirmed at the Fertile Lutheran Church. She went to country school Mt. Valley No. 6, then graduated from Forest City High School. She taught in different schools in North Iowa.

She married Donald M. Brakke on May 18, 1939, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They lived and worked on a farm northeast of Forest City their entire lives. Amy raised chickens and sold eggs in the neighborhood. She worked several years at the Winnebago County Home.

Friends and neighbors were always welcome in her home to have coffee, lunch or a meal. She was an excellent cook. Dan and Amy's farm seemed to be the neighborhood gathering place. Everyone was always welcome. Amy was a member of Winnebago Lutheran Church and active in ladies aid there. She moved to a nursing home in Mason City in June of 1995 when she was no longer able to stay at home.

Amy is survived by a daughter and her husband, Dianne and Frank Riley, of Osceola; three grandchildren, Matthew Riley and his wife, Ember, of Kansas City, Mo., Kory Riley and his wife, Dana, of Des Moines, and Kristen Kouba and her husband, Brent, of West Des Moines; five sisters, Murlette Hagen, of Lake Mills, Pearl Hanna, of Forest City, Alice Toresdahl, of Clear Lake, Elaine Ollenburg, of Ventura and Doris Bonstetter, of Clear Lake; four brothers, James Lovick, of Fertile, Leo Lovick, of Ackley, Ardie Lovick of Washington, Iowa, and Larry Lovick, of Forest City; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Lovick, of Forest City.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, who died on Aug. 15, 1994; a brother, Paul Lovick; a sister, Irene Brakke; a brother-in-law, Harvey Brakke; a half brother-in-law, Bob Brakke; two half sisters-in-law, Ethel Haugen and Helen Brones; and three brothers-in-law, Gilman Hagen, Gordon Toresdahl and Raymond Hanna.
