Shirley Mae Petersen
May 3, 1929 - October 21, 2019

Shirley M. Petersen, age 90, passed away on October 21, 2019, in Fort Collins Colorado.

Shirley was born on May 3, 1929, in Hartley, Iowa, to William and Lula (Kellum) Stellish. She spent her early life in rural O’Brien and Clay Counties, Iowa. On May 3rd, 1947, she married Burdette Petersen. She spent most of her adult life in Forest City, Iowa, where she had several occupations from Justice of the Peace to Real Estate Agent. Active in the Methodist Church, she attended services regularly. In addition, she loved playing cards, especially bridge, and she joined a bridge club. Then, for a period, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where she became a property manager. During that time, she, also, trained as a Stephen’s minister. Indeed, she, always, treasured her faith and made it a central part of her life. Moreover, with a passion, she delighted in her family and friends, especially in her grandchildren.

In 2005, she retired from the real estate business and moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, to be near her grandchildren. There, she became very active at the Senior Center and served on the Dance Council. Even though she was unable to physically participate, she enjoyed organizing and attending the dances.

Shirley is survived by her three children: Richard Petersen-Stellish, of Madison, Wisconsin, Sue Ellen Petersen, of Silverthorne, Colorado, and Penny, and her husband, Dan Satterwhite, of Fort Collins, Colorado; two grandchildren, William and Molly Satterwhite; her sister, Bonnie Berenger, of Loveland. Colorado; two nieces; and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Forest City United Methodist Church in Forest City, Iowa, with Pastor Les Green officiating. Memorial donations or other gestures of love to honor Shirley can be made to the organization or charity of your choice.
