Janet M. Nieman, 79, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at the MercyOne Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Janet was born on January 9, 1940, in rural Forest City, Iowa, to Leslie “Jack” and Helen (Philpott) O’Rourke. In 1958, she graduated from Forest City High school. On January 14, 1960, she married George Nieman. Subsequently, they had four children. A devoted farmer’s wife, homemaker, and 4-H Leader, she, also, worked in various stores around Forest City.

Janet loved socializing with her family and friends, singing, participating in bible studies and prayer groups, and attending church services. She, also, enjoyed reading books and playing games. Known for her apple pies, she won 1st place at a local pie contest. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janet is survived by her four children: Lorraine Nieman, of Garner, Iowa, Diane (Richard) O’Keefe, of Hubert, North Carolina, David Nieman, of Duluth, Minnesota, and Paul Nieman, of Clear Lake, Iowa; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren; her siblings,: Tom (Joan) O’Rourke, Mike (Jean) O’Rourke, and Carol O’ Rourke. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, George, in 1997.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 19, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Doug Domokos officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, July 18, 2019, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa 50436, and again for one hour before the services at the church on Friday. Interment will follow in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. Memorials may be directed to the Janet M. Nieman memorial fund in care of the family.
