Wendy Hagenson, 68, of Thompson, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at her son’s home in Lake Mills, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wendy Lee (Brackey) Hagenson was born on May 1, 1951, in Forest City to Willis and Donna (Halverson) Brackey. Baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa, she attended Thompson Community School, graduating with the Class of 1969. After completing her high school education, she babysat and the worked at the Thompson Hardware store, The Shopper, Lichtsinn Motors, and Lake Mills Daycare before finishing her career as a teacher’s aide at North Iowa School.

On June 14, 1969, Wendy married Allen Eugene Hagenson at Bethany Lutheran Church. To their union, three children were born: Scott, Brandon, and Heidi.

After retiring, Wendy and Allen enjoyed many pontoon rides with their grandchildren on Clear Lake. In addition, Wendy liked cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events, shopping for shoes with her mom and sisters, and laughing endlessly with friends.

Wendy is survived by her sons, Scott (Shelley), of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Brandon (Jean) Hagenson, of Kiester, Minnesota; her daughter, Heidi (Ron) Van Halle, of Fairport, New York; six grandchildren: Peter, Mitchell, Lauren, Sam, Allie, and Olivia; her parents, Donna and Don Anderson, of Thompson; her sister, Judy (Wayne) Nyguard, of Lake Mills; and her brothers: Jim (Rosemary), of Thompson, Craig (Lorraine), of Albert Lea, and Wes (Pam) Brackey, of Cedar Rapids; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Wendy is preceded in death by her father, Willis Brackey; her husband, Allen, in March of 2019; her father- and mother-in-law, Marion and Marjorie Hagenson; her nephew, Christopher Nyguard; and her niece, Grace Lampman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 183 2nd Avenue E, Thompson, Iowa 50478, with Pastors Joel L. Guttormson and Zech Anderson officiating. Visitation will is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, June 14, 2019, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, and again for one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson, Iowa.
