Roy E. Hinz
January 2, 1923 - February 1, 2019

Roy Everet Hinz, 96, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, died on Friday, February 1, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Roy was born on January 2, 1923, to William and Grace (Austin) Hinz on a farm south of Fairmont, Minnesota. From April 24, 1949, until her death in 2011, he was married to Emma (Dontje) Hinz. They farmed for many years before retiring and moving into Buffalo Center. They had three children: LeRoy, Duane, and Vicki. On September 10, 2015, Roy married Claire Rustemier. They continued to live in Buffalo Center until his passing.

Well-liked by everyone he met, Roy was known for his sense of humor. He loved playing pool, fishing, boxing, playing cards, and doing wood working projects. With each of his children, he had a special relationship, which included wrestling and fishing with his boys and sneaking off to German Valley for ice cream with Vicki.

Those who embrace his memory include his wife, Claire, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; his three children and their spouses: LeRoy and Teresa Hinz, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Duane and Janeen Hinz, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Vicki Hinz and Tamar Prero, of Salt Lake City, Utah; five grandchildren: Cory (Danika) Hinz, Jesse (Tracy) Hinz, Misty (Reid) Jensen, Cory (Kari) Meusburger, and Dana (Julian) Navarro; his beloved great-grandchildren: Mack and Abel Navarro; Mollie, Harrison, Xander, Marena, and Eli Hinz; Addi, Alex, and Gena Jensen; and Meah, Micah, and Maddox Meusburger; and two great-great-grandchildren, Emmett Hinz and Dahlia Pitzl; his sisters, Betty Wohlford and Phyllis (Duane) Dahl; his sisters-in-law, Artis (Richard) Olson and Viola Krull; and his brother-in-law, David (Susan) Dontje; along with other relatives and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma; his parents, William and Grace Hinz; and a grandson, Mack Hinz.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at the First Reformed Church, 401 1st Street, SW, Buffalo Center, Iowa 50424, with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Visitation is scheduled for one hour before the service (9:30 AM to 10:30 AM) at the church Wednesday morning. Burial will follow at the Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center, Iowa.
