Alice C. (Hestness) Gould
December 28, 1919 - January 18, 2019Alice Clara Olson was born on December 28, 1919, on the family farm in Winnebago County to Andrew R. and Hannah M. (Christopherson) Olson. Baptized at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage on January 27, 1920, and confirmed in 1935, she grew up near Thompson, Iowa. On December 28, 1939, she married Ralph Hestness in Mason City. Subsequently, they had a daughter, Lorene.
A lifelong faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson, she attended services on a weekly basis. In addition, she enjoyed her family and looked forward to holiday gatherings and special times with them. In later years for ten years, she enjoyed working for the Elderbridge Agency on Aging of Mason City. During that time, she, very much, enjoyed the relationships she made with her co-workers. Unfortunately, Ralph preceded her in death on February 11, 1980. For a short time afterwards, Alice was married to Virgil Gould before his death on June 27, 1987. In August of 2006, Alice became a resident of the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Center. She died there on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the age of 99.
She is survived by her daughter, Lorene Vrieze, and her husband, Calvin, of Ionia; three grandchildren, Tammy Vrieze, of Ionia, Kent Vrieze, and his wife, Connie, of Floyd, and Todd Vrieze, and his wife, Jessie, of Plainfield; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; as well as by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ralph and Virgil; four brothers; and four sisters.
