Dean W. Linde
November 19, 1932 – January 6, 2019

Dean W. Linde, 86 years old, went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of January 6, 2019, after a brief battle with cancer.

Dean was born on the family farm outside Lake Mills, Iowa, on November 19, 1932, to Perry and Tillie (Dolen) Linde. Baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, he graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1950. On March 6, 1953, he married the love of his life, Mavis Stenberg. Subsequently, they took up residence in Thompson. Dean, then, enlisted in the United States Army, serving stateside from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. After returning home, he went on to work as Manager of the Thompson Elevator for many years, eventually relocating his family to Texas in 1976. There, he turned himself into a great “car man,” making record sales and winning awards for Chrysler Dodge. He retired at age 63 but continued to work hard on an acreage he had purchased, and with the help of many a family member, he cleared it and turned it into an amazing homestead complete with beautiful gardens, a catfish pond, and a dock. Needless to say, he took a great deal of pride in his accomplishments. Later, Dean and Mavis traveled the States, sightseeing while experiencing adventures in their RV. Then, they moved their residence to Pinehurst, Texas.

Nevertheless, Dean prided himself most of all as a devoted Christian in having become a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Indeed, he worked hard to provide for his family, instilling in them his strong work ethic, his high moral values, and his commitment to doing business with honesty and integrity. He developed a reputation in his professional and personal circles as a man with high expectations, a big smile, and a sunny disposition. In short, he exemplified the true meaning of a responsible and caring husband, father, friend, and neighbor.

Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert (Bob) Linde, Dean is survived by Mavis, his wife of 65 years whom he so devotedly loved; his daughters: Debra (Bill) Underbakke, of New Mexico, Kim (Chris) Leonard, of South Dakota, Denise Ortega, of Texas, and Roxanne (Martin) Morin, also of Texas; his grandchildren: Eric (Nikki) Etherington, and daughter, Camber; Alex Underbakke; Sara (Chris) Snyder, and sons, Owen and Caelan; Damian (Tia) Leonard, and daughters, Sophie and Penelope; Megan Leonard, and daughter, Alba; Emma Salsbury, and daughters, Genevieve and Ava; Nels (Dana) Leonard; Grady Leonard; Maddie Ortega; and Shelby Morin; his beloved little sister, Arlene Zielske, whom he absolutely cherished; and his dear cousins, Blanch Mikkelson, of Utah, and Donald Dolen, of Washington State.

Dean, no doubt, touched and inspired hundreds of people in a positive and meaningful way over the years. He will be missed by everyone that had the pleasure of meeting him.

A service honoring his life will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson on February 9, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. A lunch will be hosted by the Ladies Circle at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson immediately after the service.
