April 21, 1945 - November 19, 2018Surrounded by his loving daughters, David Charles Monson, age 73, of Forest City, formerly of Leland, Iowa, died on Monday, November 19, 2018, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
A son of Bert and Cynthia (Ellingson) Monson, David was born on April 21, 1945, in Freeborn County, Minnesota. Baptized at the Emmons Lutheran Church, he married Nancy Kay Steffensen, the love of his life, on July 29, 1972. Although he had a tough exterior at times, just like Nancy, he too had a heart of gold for others. In 1975, Nancy and David were blessed with their first daughter, Anne. Ten years later, they adopted their second little girl (Katie) from Guatemala. David took such pride in his family. His wife, Nancy, and their two daughters became known as “Papa’s girls”. David couldn’t have been prouder of his three girls; they made up his entire world.
For years, David repaired watches for a living. Later, he put that job aside and worked at 3M for many years until he eventually retired. During the fall, he would spend weekends watching football with his girls, Saturdays Iowa State Cyclones and Sundays the Minnesota Vikings with a pot roast. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, tinkering with watches, working outdoors on the farm, and spending time with his girls.
David leaves behind his two loving daughters, Anne Kristine and Kathleen (Katie) Elizabeth, both of Leland, Iowa; his brother, Paul (Marilyn) Monson, of Newell, Iowa; his nephews, Scott (Jill) Monson, of Fort Greeley, Alaska, and Michael (Emily) Monson, of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; and his mother-in-law, Clarine Steffensen, of Lake Mills; and all of his ATTIC CLUB family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy Monson; his parents, Bert and Cynthia Monson; a brother, Gary Monson; and his father-in-law, DeVere Steffensen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 26, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, November 25, 2018, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills. Burial will follow at Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the David Monson memorial fund in care of the family.
