James O. Lovick
February 13, 1919 - September 2, 2018

James Orlando Lovick, 99, of Fertile, died on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Jim was born February 13, 1919, to Henry and Ida (Hanson) Lovick, in Mount Valley Township. He married Alvera Hanna on May 25, 1941, at the North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Scarville. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2014.

Jim attended country school and worked out as a hired boy before graduating from Forest City High School in 1936. He and Alvera rented a farm northwest of Forest City before purchasing the “home place” in 1945 where they farmed until they moved to Fertile in 1988. Jim, often, reminisced that he had his dream job – farming with his dad and brothers. After retiring, he continued working as a hired man for his brother Larry, mowed his lawn with a John Deere tractor, and had morning coffee at the Downtown Café liars table. In addition to teaching Sunday School, Jim served on the Church Council, the Creamery Board, the Rural Electric Board, the Fertile Seniors Board, and with the Fertile celebration committees.

He is survived by five daughters and one daughter-in-law: Gloria Kirschbaum, of Fertile, Patricia (Purcell) Lovick, of Mankato Minnesota, Mary Rye, of Robbinsdale Minnesota, Janice Folkers, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Clara (Kurt) West, of Rochester Minnesota, and Martha (William) Cavanaugh, of Charles City Iowa; his grandchildren: Sarah (Dan) Boswell; Lisa (Bryan) Brophy; James (Dani) Cavanaugh; Ellen (Rafael) Echenique; Rachel (Jason) Dahl; William (Jill) Folkers; Eric (Brenda), John (Kathy), Karl (Teesha), and Kristen Kirschbaum; Michael (Kathy) Lovick; Kevin West; and Hannah (Christopher) Wilkowske; his great grandchildren: Aidan, Amos, Anna, Beatrix, Blaze, Caden, Celeste, David, Elizabeth, Elliott, Felix, Franco, Freya, Holli, Ingeborg, Jace, Jasper, Jeffrey, Joaquin, Juan, Katie, Kezia, Madison, Magdalena, Megan, Otto, Sophie, Tegan, and Xavier; his great-great-grandchildren: Andrew, Dani Mae, and Jacob; his brother, Leo (Marlys) Lovick; his sister, Doris Bonnstetter, and his sister-in-law, Diane (Larry) Lovick; as well as by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

James was preceded in death by his wife Alvera; his parents; an infant daughter, Betty Ann; his son, David; three sons-in-law: Edward Kirschbaum, Ralph Rye, and Doug Folkers; and his siblings and their spouses: Frank Bonnstetter, Amy and Don Brakke, Irene and Harvey Brakke, Murlette and Gilman Hagen, Pearl and Raymond Hanna, Ardie and Juanita Lovick, Paul and Gladys Lovick, Grace Elaine and Robert Ollenberg, and Alice and Gordon Toresdahl.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the Fertile Lutheran Church with the Pastor Dave Halvorsen officiating. A gathering of friends and family will take place Friday, September 7, 2018, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa.
