June Monson
June 25, 1927 - July 15, 2018

Surrounded by her family, June Monson, 91, of Forest City, died on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Country Meadow Place Assisted Living in Mason City.

Hazel June Monson, a daughter of Wilson “Bill” and Rhoda (Hoveland) Parsons, was born on June 25, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa. After graduating from Mason City High School, she worked as a salesperson for Damon’s Department Store. On September 20, 1946, she married Earl Monson at the St. John’s Lutheran Parsonage in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Ellington Township, rural Forest City, where they raised their family. June retired from Winnebago Industries after many years of employment.

After retiring, June took part in a variety of activities. She loved quilting, participating in church activities, traveling with family, volunteering with RSVP and Hospice of North Iowa, and golfing with Earl. Moreover, she treasured the time she could spend with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

June is survived by her four daughters and their spouses: Cheryl and Bill Thompson, of Mason City, LaDonna Underwood, of Wapello, Marilyn and Michael Thornburg, of Mt. Pleasant, and Kimberly and Kevin Jessen, of Joice; her grandchildren: Hailey (Jamie) Cox, Emily (Brian) Duke, Julia Jessen (Alan Schaefer), Billie (Rod) Keith, Tommie Jo (Eric) Miller, and Kristopher (Elizabeth) and Nicholas Thornburg (Jill Moeller); thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Marge Gilbertson, of Apple Valley, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl LeRoy Monson; her brother, Phillip Dean Parsons; her sister, Viola Peterson; and many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Snitzer officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, July 27, 2018, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa 50436. Burial of cremains will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Pilot Knob Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
