Milton Monson, Jr.
September 6, 1931 - July 15, 2018Milton Monson, Jr., 86, of Forest City, died on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Milton Monson, Jr., a son of Milton, Sr., and Lucille (Philpott) Monson, was born on September 6, 1931, in rural Crystal Lake, Iowa. Until the 8th grade, he attended rural schools. In 1951, he started driving truck for various companies. In the 1960s, he began working for Garner Ready Mix. After retiring from Yohn & Son, he accepted a job driving truck for S&M Trucking. Next, he drove for Branstad Farms. Clearly, he had a passion for driving truck. During the many years he lived in south Texas, he would, even, drive to Mexico to pick up his medications, turn around, and drive back without ever turning on the radio. He did, however, have a couple side passions: mowing grass and showing off his 1929 Model A. In 1953, Milton married Dorothy Hurst. She bore him four children. Dorothy died in 1997. In 1999, he married Norma Brock. She passed in 2017.
Milton is survived by his children: Kenny (Sheryl) Monson, John (Virginia) Monson, Paula (Bill) Gaines, Darla (and the late Duane) Thorson; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; his sister, Darline Monson; his special friends, Steve and Julie Miller; his step children: Trudy (Larry) Folkerts, Rick (and the late Karen) Brock, Jodene (Gary) Bartleson, Rhonda King, and Terrel (Tammy) and John (Dawn) Brock. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two wives, Dorothy and Norma; a daughter, Sandy; and a grandson, Marly Johnson, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa. Burial will follow at Ellington Township Cemetery, rural Forest City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
