Jerry L. Lunning, Sr.
September 30, 1939 - February 22, 2018

Jerry L. Lunning, Sr., 78, of Forest City, died on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the Hancock Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Jerry L. Lunning, a son of Virgil L. and Anola (Helland) Lunning, was born on September 30, 1939, in Clarion, Iowa. On June 13, 1970, he married Mona Johnson in Clear Lake, Iowa. To their union, two sons, Jerry, Jr., and Virgil Roy Lunning, were born.

Jerry enjoyed spending time outside, farming, building things, fishing, getting together with neighbors and friends, and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, to whom he loved giving wheelchair rides. Jerry, also, liked listening to country music and watching John Wayne westerns. He will be, dearly, missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sons, Jerry Lunning, Jr., and Virgil Roy (Shea) Lunning, all of Forest City; his children from a previous marriage: Darin, Lori (Deb), and Rick (Cindy) Kofron, and Christy (Chuck) Smoley; his grandchildren, Kelly Ranae (Larissa) Munroe; Juliet Sorteberg; Elsa JoDel, Trinity Faith, and Tristan Wayne Lunning and Mandi; Amy Kofron; and Tanner Smoley; and his siblings, Verdell, Roger, and Darrell (Wanda) Lunning, and Denise (Doug) Rogers, and Deb (Scott) Loge, as well as by many nieces and nephews.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mona, in August of 2017 and his brother, Lynn Lunning.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa. Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M., Monday, February 26, 2018, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa 50436. Burial will follow in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jerry L. Lunning memorial fund in care of the family.
