David Mark Benson

David M. Benson, 71, of Forest City, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

David Mark Benson, a son of Robert and Katherine “Jessie” (Rollefson) Benson, was born on February 24, 1946, in Leland, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, he attended Forest City Schools, graduating in 1964. Drafted into the United States Army in November of 1965, he was, medically, discharged on January 21, 1966.

David started working as a carpenter for Dick Thompson with whom he learned his carpentry skills. He, then, went to work for John Hill Construction for many years before starting his own construction business in 1974. He built many beautiful homes for families throughout North Central Iowa. Most of all, he liked design work, intricate and creative finishes, always working hard to please the homeowners.

David loved to play golf and enjoyed watching it on TV. Moreover, he liked watching the Hawkeye and Cyclone sports teams, even though he had been disappointed with the basketball records this season. The teller of many good jokes, he would, often, laugh to himself before finishing the punch line.

He is survived by his brothers, Lynn (Marcia), Randi, and Steven (Susan) Benson; his sister, Lori (Brian) Tomasek; his nephews: Sheldon, Travis, Aaron, Logan, Coltn, and Hunter Benson; and his aunts: Marjorie Anderson, Dorothy Etzen, and Julianne Tosel, as well as by many cousins and great nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rod Hopp of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. A gathering of family and friends will take place one hour before the services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial of cremains will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa, next summer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in David’s name.
