Irma L. Lockrem
January 6, 1919 - August 1, 2017

Irma L. Lockrem, a daughter of Albert and Alma (Gullickson) Butz, was born on January 6, 1919, in Hope, North Dakota. She lived on a farm in North Dakota until her father passed away in 1930 when she moved back to Ridgeway, Iowa, with her mother. She attended Ridgeway High School, Iowa State Teachers College, and Luther College. She, then, taught school in Carpenter, Iowa, for four years. On July 19, 1941, she married Norman Lockrem. While waiting for Norman to come home from the service, she continued to live in Ridgeway. After his return, they moved to Thompson, Iowa, where they owned and operated Lockrem Hardware and Butler Agri-Business until Norman passed away in 1974.

Very talented, Irma learned to play the piano at an early age and played for all the school functions in high school. Moreover, for many years, she enjoyed playing the organ at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson. Also an excellent seamstress and quilter, she, very generously, gave away many of the beautiful items she made.

Quite adventurous, Irma, always, looked forward to having an enjoyable time. She liked to dress up on Halloween and go trick or treating, even as an adult. She loved taking trips and seeing novel places. She, especially, fondly remembered her trip to Ireland where she kissed the Blarney Stone. In addition, she valued her family. She, always, offered her support when needed and loved to help family and friends. For many years, as well, she took care of her mother at home on the farm in Thompson.

Mrs. Lockrem is survived by her daughter, Kay (Marshall) Crandall, of Joliet, Illinois; her son, Odean (Kathy) Lockrem, of Doliver, Iowa; her three grandchildren, Lisa DuBeau, Ryan (Holly) Lockrem, and Courtney (Bridget) Crandall; one step-grandson, Church Marlin; seven great-grandchildren; and her good friend, Grace Branstad. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, and her husband.

Funeral services for Irma Lockrem will be held at 9:30 AM, Saturday, August 19th, 2017, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson. Her family will greet friends for one hour before the service at the church. Graveside inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, will precede the visitation and the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Irma's name to Saint Jude's Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House.
