John R. Morris
April 29, 1932 - February 7, 2017FOREST CITY – John R. Morris, 84, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
John Richard Morris, a son of Frank and Mary (Starek) Morris, was born on April 29, 1932, in Washington, Pennsylvania. In 1949, he graduated from Washington High School. He, then, continued his education at Washington and Jefferson College, graduating with a degree in physics in 1953. Next, John served his country in the U.S. Army in Okinawa, Japan, for two years. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Pennsylvania to enroll at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a master’s degree in industrial management. On August 3, 1957, he married Connie Kotva at All Saints Catholic Church in Etna, Pennsylvania. They, subsequently, lived in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Armonk, New York, while John was employed with IBM. John and Connie, then, moved to Minneapolis where John had accepted a position as Vice President at Control Data Corporation, a job he held for thirteen years. In 1986, they moved to Forest City and became the WIT directors at Winnebago Industries, working there until 1990. John was, then, appointed CFO at North Central Human Services in Forest City (now MOSAIC) where he remained until he retired. A member of St. James Catholic Church and the Forest City Rotary Club, he, also, enjoyed reading and wood working.
John is survived by his wife, Connie, of Forest City; five children, John Richard, Jr., (Susan) Morris, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, James Francis (Katie) Morris, of Plymouth, Minnesota, Constance Marie Morris, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Cecilie Anne (Neal) Loidolt, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Justin Andrew Morris, of Denver, Colorado; seventeen grandchildren, John III, Katie, Joe, Emily, Erin, Paul, Kirsten, Nick, Kerry, Allie, Jackson, Erik, Sam, Andy, Abbie, Sammi, and Hannah; and six great grandchildren, Claire, John IV, Cassidy, Nicholas, Teddy, and D’Andre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Francis Emily Morris.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, February 10, 2017, at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Dubert and Fr. Paul Lippstock officiating. The Forest City Veterans Ceremonial Unit will conduct a flag presentation ceremony. Burial will follow at a later date in the church cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour before services at the church on Friday. The Cataldo Schott Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements.
