The following obituary comes from an unknown 1938 newspaper clipping: "Services For Fred Stratman Held Tuesday. Funeral services for Fred Stratman, who passed away Saturday morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Tammen, was held at the Tammen home Tuesday, Nov. 22nd, at 1:00PM with the Rev. David Farrington and Rev. Wm. R. Everts in charge. Interment was at the cemetery at Spirit Lake, Iowa. Frederick Stratman was born at Silver Creek, Illinois, on November 21, 1870 and passed away after a short but serious illness in the home of his sister, Mrs. John Tammen of Buffalo Center, Iowa, on November 19, 1938, lacking two days of reaching 68 years. In 1871 his parents moved from Silver Creek to Hardin County, Iowa. In 1892 Mr. Stratman moved to Minnesota, and one year later, to Estherville, Iowa. On November 21, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Maude Peterson, of Estherville. She passed away in 1910 (Note: Should be Maud and 1900), and since that time the deceased has made his home with his sister, where he passed away. While in Buffalo Center, Mr. Stratman through his business interests and associations, and through his many years of service in public office, made a very large number of friends. He was a man favorably known, and respected, because of his integrity, and because of his friendly disposition. Many are missing his genial presence in and around the business places of Buffalo Center. He leaves to mourn his departure, his one daughter, Mrs. K. H. Elman of Buffalo Center; two sisters: Mrs. John Tammen and Mrs. John Lohrbach, of Buffalo Center, one brother, Claus of Terril; two grand-children, and other, more distant relatives, and many friends. One sister preceded him in death.
